3 Towers

Belgrade, Serbia, Spring 2019

Widescreen Video Play Mute

In the east of the city of Belgrade, the highest buildings of the city rise to the sky. Especially at sunrise and sunset, the view from below is overwhelming. Built in the 1960s in communist Yugoslavia, these three towers represent a stereotypical symbol of the Brutalist era in architecture.

The film reflects the tension between the contrast of nature versus architecture, the extreme height at close range, the hardness of the structures in changing light and the nevertheless existing beauty, intimacy and tranquility of a man-made and inhabited settlement.

Special thanks goes to the inhabitants and their representatives of the towers, whose welcome openness and support enabled to take film recordings from the ground and on the roof of the towers.

The protagonist experiences the cycle of emotions from birth to death. Torn by love and hate, highs and lows, the dance symbolizes the course of life.

The development of the overall work was agile; Music, dance, choreography, scenery and film always influenced each other. The cycle began with the creation of the musical composition with the choreography together. In the end, the sound and the echo of the hall as the dancer bangs against the glass fades back into the music.

Idea and inspiration: Elektra Guekos, Dancelight Studios in Zurich.
Choreography: Mike Löwenrosen, Sunrise Studios, Vienna.
Dancer: Arman Grigoryan.
Cello: Olivér Mohácsi.
Violin: Michel Willi.
Music & Film: Frank Kallenberg.
